Dr Bernadette Bywater MAPS
Clinical Psychologist
At SIOS Bernadette provides assessment and support for patients before and after surgery. Bernadette brings to the role specialist experience in providing treatment for eating disorders, body image issues and weight loss. Her doctoral research was in the area of depression, coping style and perfectionism in people who are overweight.
Bernadette is trained in the use of a range of scientifically supported therapies including Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Bernadette also provides treatment for a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, stress and life transitions.

Marie-Lisa Boukarim
Clinical Psychologist
At SIOS Marie-Lisa provides assessment and support for patients before and after surgery. Marie-Lisa is a very warm and understanding therapist, who is trained in the use of scientifically supported therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. She is skilled in tailoring her therapeutic approach to suit the individual needs and goals of the client.
Marie-Lisa's background as a sport coach and fitness leader has inspired her particular interest in eating disorders, obesity and weight management difficulties.
In addition to her clinical work, Marie-Lisa has conducted Honours level research focused on attention and memory deficits during pregnancy. She has also conducted Masters level research exploring sleep disturbance in older adults with late-onset depression.
Marie-Lisa has experience working with a range of psychological disorders and offers treatment for various difficulties including health related disorders, anxiety, mood and adjustment issues.
