Our specialist dietitians Eva Tamrakar and Shannon Overs are experts in the nutrition management of weight loss surgery, particularly gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and omega-loop gastric bypass. Bringing over 12 years nutrition counselling experience to SIOS, Eva and Shannon are highly committed to ongoing professional development and education to provide their clients with individualised, up-to-date, evidence-based dietary care.
Eva is a fully registered accredited practising dietitian and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). Eva has several years’ experience providing nutrition counselling for adults in various health care settings including: clinical, community, corporate and private practice. Shannon is a fully registered accredited practising dietitian and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). She has both clinical and research experience and holds two appointments:
In her clinical role at SIOS Shannon specialises in nutritional management before and after weight loss surgery. She has extensive experience supporting clients though their life-changing journey; guiding them through every step of their gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. In her research position at University of Sydney, Shannon develops, co-ordinates and delivers group-based dietary interventions for weight loss, and weight loss maintenance on an international diabetes prevention trial.
Prior to her nutrition degrees, Shannon studied Commercial Cookery at Ryde College of TAFE. She completed her apprenticeship in 2003 becoming a qualified chef, and she has over six years’ cooking experience in the hospitality industry.
Shannon believes that the need for support does not stop after weight loss surgery. She strives to provide quality ongoing care to help her clients make the most of their procedure, and to improve their overall quality of life. With her unique combination of academic and culinary skills Shannon’s goal is to help her patients make eating healthy foods as easy as possible.
Natasha is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian as well as a Credentialed Diabetes Educator. Natasha attained a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at Flinders University in 2001 and after several years working in the area of diabetes undertook her Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management in 2008.
With 14 years of working between tertiary care hospitals and in private practice, Natasha specialises in the management of diabetes, pregnancy and obesity surgery. In addition to these specialist areas she is experienced in gastroenterology, heart health, nutrition support and oncology. Natasha ensures a thorough, compassionate and practical approach to helping Patients achieve their goals.
In addition to seeing patients she has been involved in various research projects and provides education sessions for general practitioners and other health professionals.
